Wesley's First Plane Ride
In an interesting turn of events, I will be flying with Wesley to Atlanta on Wednesday. Colby has been at Ft. Benning, GA for the last 2 weeks doing some Army training. He will be there until mid-July at the earliest. For the entire time he is there he has no phones or internet so our only correspondence can be through snail mail. However, he gets this coming weekend as his only weekend off. I asked him before he left if he wanted me and Wes to come out to visit him and he told me no (because he thought it would make it harder to be away longer after that). So this afternoon I get a bizarre text message from a number I don't recognize saying, "Mrs Bowser, I went to PRC with your husband. He is still there and asked me to send you this message. He will fly into Atlanta by noon on Thursday and rent a car. He will return no earlier than Sunday evening. If feasible." I was so confused by this because it didn't make sense for Colby to fly to Atlanta (1 1/2 hour drive from Ft. Benning) and why would he rent a car after flying? So I called the number that the message came from hoping the guy could shed more light on this. Turns out, the guy left the training early and Colby asked him to get a message to his wife by giving him a note which had my phone number and said, "Fly to Atlanta by noon Thursday and rent a car. Return no earlier than Sunday evening. If feasible." See the addition of those "He is"s made a huge difference it the meaning of his message. I'm still a little wary of the situation and would much prefer to talk to Colby and have him explain exactly what he wants but that simply isn't a possibility
So, I bought a plane ticket to Atlanta and setup a rental car. I haven't made any hotel reservations yet because I have no idea where Colby will want to stay for his few nights off. It's really difficult to plan all of this without being able to contact him at all.
Now that tickets are purchased, I have to figure out how to travel there with Wesley. I need to pack the normal baby items but also his special medical things. We had to switch insurance companies when Colby left for training so I have been trying to get everything switched over and find out what the new insurance will and won't cover. Because of that, we are almost out of a lot of things that I normally wouldn't let us get so low on. So before we leave Wednesday afternoon, I have to get both of his prescriptions refilled, get medical supplies from the supply company, and find some way to get enough formula to last until we get back (they are currently fighting the insurance company to get them to pay for it). Then I have to figure out regulations on what baby things I can bring on the airplane, how many bags I'm allowed, pack normal things for me and Wesley, and figure out how to navigate the airport with Wesley and all of our stuff. I already feel horrible for anyone who gets stuck behind me in the security line.
But, with all of those things to stress about, it all seems totally worth it to not have to wait at least 2 more months to get to see Colby and for him to get to see Wesley. :D
